In ancient cultures, the floral corsage was worn to ward off evil spirits, especially during special events such as weddings. Because flowers and herbs were also thought to protect people from illness and disease, eventually corsages and boutonnieres were worn nearly every day. However, as the centuries passed, beliefs changed and medical knowledge increased, the usage of flowers for these purposes waned and became more of a luxury. By the late 17th century, floral corsages were primarily used as a gift of courtship and romantic admiration.
Today, corsages and boutonnieres are for special formal occasions - as prom flowers, for formal events, graduation ceremonies, and even Mother's Day. No matter what the event or celebration this spring, you can trust the designers at Nanz & Kraft Florists to create something beautiful! Read More about Prom Flowers & Corsages for Mom »

If we asked you to name a flower that completely embodies the essence of springtime, chances are the daisy would come to mind. But although you may imagine the iconic gold and white variety, this deceivingly simple looking flower comes in over 4,000 species, and grows naturally on every continent of the globe except Antarctica. Daisies come in the full spectrum of color and represent almost 10% of the flowering plants in the world. No matter what your special occasion or event, the daisy is a classic choice - and Nanz & Kraft Florists are the best floral experts to call for the freshest, most exquisite cut daisies in Louisville.
What's in a Name? The name daisy is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word "daes eage" which means "day's eye", so named because the flower opens its petals when the sun rises and closes them at sunset. Read More about Celebrating with April Daisies »

National Puppy Day is a grassroots effort to encourage people to foster, rescue and adopt puppies (and older dogs) from shelters. Established 10 years ago by Coleen Paige, an advocate of animal rights, the movement has gained acceptance globally - thanks primarily to the power of social media. Puppies bring so much love and joy into our lives, and we think a day that a campaign to make their lives better is a great idea. Sadly, there is a long way to go to give every furry friend a home.
By the Numbers: Nearly 4 million dogs are surrendered to animal shelters across the country annually. Only one-third of those animals will be adopted into forever families, while 1.7 million dogs will be euthanized. With so many dogs languishing in shelters or losing their lives, National Puppy Day hopes to raise awareness and stop overpopulation and breeding-for-profit. There is no doubt that the Irish culture is embedded in our own. We have phrases that are a part of our everyday life, we have foods that comfort us, and we even have a holiday that celebrates all things from Ireland. Interestingly enough, St. Patrick's Day was originally a religious observance honoring a man who was not even Irish - yet today, the over 36 million Americans who claim this heritage see March 17th as a day set aside for parades, green beer, and the wearing o' the green. St. Patrick's Day is a diverse cultural feast day, and one which everyone loves partaking in, whether Irish or not.
St. Maewyn's Day? Saint Patrick's birth name was Maewyn Succat. He was born in Great Britain but adored in Ireland after single-handedly bringing Christianity to the nation. Read More about Green Plants and Flowers »
